Just back after watching the movie Armageddon and I thought I'd browse for a little. Then I found this cute little piece of machinery.

Hey, its cozy up here !

Well, whatya know? It’s my vacation finally. After two long years of hard work and toil, I’m finally home for a long sit for about 3 months. I don’t want to waste the major part of it, but for the time being, I’m in a festive mood. Listening to music and hanging around with friends are my hobbies now.

Trust me, I’ve never went to my friends’ house without an official reason! But the other day, when I went to Rojer’s, it was totally cool. It was just for time pass and I found it exciting to chat with him. Truly, it’d be great to do it everyday! My opinion is that hanging around with friends when you’ve an exam coming is not worth it. But in times like these it is great.

We talked of his future plans and all. He is going to take the Entrance tests again next year as he didn’t score well this year. He is going to sacrifice a year for it and I think it to be a jolly good decision. He is going to attend Prof. P. C. Thomas classes again as a repeater. All my other friends are going to join the Jyothi Engineering College here. They’ll get admissions in management seats and they’re going to pay a huge sum for it. Hopefully, it may never occur in Rojer’s case next year.

Speaking of next year, I’ll again write my IIT exams in 2006. I’m not gonna just give up on that. I’ve begun preparations on a small scale today. Although it relaxes me, I’m not able to concentrate fully as it is my vacation! In sooth, vacation is like a kind of freedom. I’m not gonna waste this three months hopelessly.

I bought my passport application form today. I'm gonna fill it up and get my passport as soon as I can. I also want to prepare for GRE and TOEFL. Now you know where i'm headed!!

My other hobby is listening to music. English songs, mostly. I love them for their videos and the meanings of lyrics. As I’m not a native speaker of American English, it is difficult for me sometimes to make out the lyrics. But hearing them again and again for a long time makes me feel comfortable with the lyrics. I wanted to hear the song called “The Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, but I’m missing it so often. One of these days, I’m gonna hear it. The latest I heard was “Complicated” from Avril Lavinge. It’s a good one.

I’ve a vast collection of songs by Michael Jackson and I love them for their speed, rhythm and the nostalgic feelings that they produce. Most of the songs are old like “Thriller” or “Beat it”. I’ve been hearing them since I was a child.

Childhood was so good. If ever I got a way to produce some antigravity and thus draw time backward, I’ll first visit my childhood, watching it from another angle, another perspective. Now let me wind this up as I’m gonna play either Grand Theft Auto: Vice City or Painkiller.

Oh! By the way, I’ve not yet seen Star Wars-Revenge of the sith!

Bye for now…

Star Wars Episode 3 : Revenge of the Sith

Waiting...

It has been sometime till I wrote the blog about STS 114. I’ve been a little busy and I was not in a mood to write a blog. Anyway, here’s another installment!

On May 20th, Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith will hit the screens. I’ve been pursuing it closely for some days. I’m very interested in that story. Of course people may argue that the original trilogy was the best. But now I feel that without the prequel trilogy, the saga of Star Wars will not be completed.

I got the whole script of the movie from Supershadow. I found it thoroughly enjoying and am looking forward to watch the movie. It tells the story of Anakin Skywalker, his rise to the evil side of “the Force”. Again, it tells of tales of destruction of the Jedi council and the centuries old Republic. Acquisition of power by the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and his rise are Darth Sidious, the rise of the evil Galactic Empire and the establishments of Rebel Alliance are dealt with carefully.

Revenge of the Sith answers many questions that arose from the original Star Wars trilogy. Here’s a time line of the Star Wars movies

1999: The Phantom Menace
2002: Attack of the Clones
2005: Revenge of the Sith
1977: A new Hope
1980: The Empire strikes Back
1983: Return of the Jedi

Rumor has it that George Lucas is planning for yet another trilogy which will be a sequel to the original trilogy.

Footnote : Sony is planning to release Play Station 3 . Wow!

Here it is:

After the unprecedented disaster the Space shuttle Columbia, on February the 1st 2003,
NASA had postponed its manned space missions for a while. But with the announcement of mission STS 114, NASA is planning what it calls, “Return to Flight”. STS stands for “Space Transportation System”.

With the primary aim as shuttle safety, NASA will launch its Space shuttle “Discovery” from launch pad 39B at Kennedy Space Center, Florida, USA. According to NASA, “The launch will be a dramatic display of smoke, fire, and sound --And the fulfillment of a promise made to the families of the Columbia astronauts: that NASA would honor their memory by continuing their quest for knowledge.”

Discovery's crew of seven astronauts is led by Commander Eileen Collins (Col., USAF, Ret.), America’s first female spacecraft commander. Joining her will be Pilot James Kelly (Lt. Col., USAF), and Mission Specialists Soichi Noguchi, representing the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA); Stephen Robinson and Andrew Thomas, both civilian mechanical engineers; Wendy Lawrence (Captain, USN); and Charles Camarda, a civilian aerospace engineer.

Discovery will resume the construction of the International Space Station and will deliver some new cargo to the ISS. Three space walks, each of about 6 ½ hour duration is planned by NASA. The space walks will be done by Noguchi and Robinson. They’ll test Shuttle heat shield repair material techniques, replace one of the station’s control gyroscopes, restore power to another and install a work platform for future in-orbit construction.

Lawrence is in charge of the transfer of supplies and equipment to the station. She and other crew members will operate the Shuttle and Station robotic arms. The arms are used to assist spacewalks, install equipment and inspect the orbiter’s thermal protective tiles.

Thomas will be the primary operator for the Shuttle’s robotic arm as it uses a new boom
Extension to perform an unprecedented inspection of the Shuttle’s heat shield. He will also serve as the choreographer from inside the Shuttle cabin during three spacewalks the STS-114 crew will perform.

Camarda will share Space Shuttle robotic arm duties with Thomas. He also will prepare rendezvous and navigation equipment and help Lawrence transfer supplies to and from the Station. Using the Station's robotic arm and the Shuttle's robotic arm at times, the mission will involve some of the most complex space robotics work ever performed.

Waiting for the next big thing

Dr. Kalpana Chawla

I’m going to forget the IITs for a while. That’s until I finish the All India Engineering Entrance Examinations. The All India Engineering Entrance Examination extracts from a wide community students suitable to study at NIT, the next big thing to the IIT. So I’m working hard to acquire a seat.

As I’ve already said, objective type tests combine both knowledge and luck. As luck has no chances of favoring me soon, I’d have to rely solely on the other factor, knowledge. I’ve almost rounded up the subjects for NIT on a good ground, so I expect me to perform well.

The exam is on 8th of May, a Sunday. The venue is a school of name Campion at Edapully, near Ernakulam. I’ll be going to my father’s house on 7th. My father told me that the school is just 19kms from there. That’s good news. I can arrive fresh and enthusiastic without a problem which is infact terrific.

I know that I’ve forgotten to tell about my family. So you can expect a detailed blog about it, sometime after the 8th.

Keep your fingers crossed for the moment. Will Ya ?

Oh Boy !

The eventful days are over. Neither I nor my friends got past the screening test conducted by IIT. I don’t want to talk about it further. It’ll hurt my feelings. It took me almost a day to recover from it. But the best things are reserved for future. Here’s an article I got from the internet. I hope that everyone desirous of pursuing a career in Aerospace Engineering and ultimately become an astronaut would like it. Here’s the original web page http://spaceyideas.com/astronaut.html
